Aluzinc Coils: long life material in applications
Aluzinc, Zincalume and Galvalume are different trade names of one product. Aluzinc is cold rolled galvanized steel with metal coating composed of Aluminium (55%), Zinc (43.4%) and Silicon (1.6%). It is formable, weldable and readily accepts paint finishes. After surface pretreatment, including cleaning to remove impurities and oil, and composite oxidation and passivation treatment, the surface is coated with PE, SMP, and PVDF paint. The coating is then baked and solidified, making these coils particularly suitable for applications in corrosive and coastal areas.
Aluzinc is used in applications where long life is an essential requirement. Aluzinc coated steel has superior long term corrosion resistance in most atmospheric conditions. This is achieved through the combination of the sacrificial protection of the zinc and the barrier protection of the aluminum. Corrosion rates vary according to the severity of atmospheric conditions. The protective mechanism for Alu-zinc and hot-dip-galvanized steel are such that the hot-dip-galvanized coating initially protects better but the zinc coat will gradually corrode away more and more in the vicinity of the edge and the protective effect will be lost. Then the aluminum part of the Aluzinc coating will persist for a longer period of time, and the protection will thereby remain.
